1998 TO 2008: 10 YEARS OF INSANE SURF AND GARAGE FROM NEW JERSEY
Facts is facts: New Jersey's Mister Neutron is one of the most powerful -- and busy -- instrumental rock bands on the East Coast of the USA. In 2007, we performed across the country -- in New Jersey (where we eat, drink and steal hubcaps), California (two mini-tours!), New York (the Large Apple!), Kentucky, Georgia, Maryland and Connecticut.
And while distant gigs from El Segundo, CA, to Louisville, KY, were last year's hot topic, in 2008, we're focusing on two new Mister Neutron CDs.
There are 16 all-new studio tracks on NOR'EASTER, which we've been recording and noodling with since 2006. This is the Mister Neutron CD instrumental-rock fans have been waiting for -- for real. It features a lot of the cool stuff we've been performing for the past three years, including "Mambo Italiano," "Hornet's Nest" and "Stratosfear," plus a ton of new original tunes in a variety of instro styles, including modern surf, slack key, spaghetti western, spy and chicken-pickin' country. Stay tuned for release details.
We're also working on our first-ever live CD, LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, which was recorded by Steven Libis at the International Surfing Museum in Huntington Beach on Oct. 7, 2007. This CD will feature 17 songs from that lovely Sunday-afternoon gig near the Pacific Ocean. It features lots of brand-all songs that are on NOR'EASTER, pretty much the entire RED TRIANGLE album, plus all-new covers of "Mr. Moto" (Thanks, Paul Johnson!), "Man of Mystery," "Lenny" and "Jellyfish Race" by The Razorblades.
And now for something completely old:
Damian Fanelli, Tony Fanelli and Drew Paradine have been performing and recording together since Aug. 11, 1984. In 1998, they started calling themselves Mister Neutron and began mixing garage and surf. From 2000 to 2004, they recorded MISTER NEUTRON LOVES YOU, which was released on Deep Eddy Records in October 2004.
Mister Neutron completed the shift to instrumental rock in early 2005 and started performing at Unsteady Freddie's Surf Rock Shindigs at Otto's Shrunken Head in New York City. Since then, Unsteady and Mister Neutron have made Otto's, an always-packed divey tiki bar on East 14th Street, their home base.
Mister Neutron released RED TRIANGLE, their first all-instro CD, on Deep Eddy Records in July 2006. The CD has sold very well, hit the radio charts in Ohio and even produced a college-radio hit, "Super Constellation," which was spun hundreds of times in the first quarter of 2007, earning Damian Fanelli his first royalties check from BMI. Who needs the lottery?!?
That brings us back to 2008, the year of multiple Neutron CDs. Several gigs are also in the works, including some Otto's gigs, which are always fun. They might even return to Texas!
Back to the new CDs: Titles on NOR'EASTER include "Nor'easter," "Tiki Barber," "Vlad the Impala," "Sea Girt Agent Man," "Adriatica," "Big Sur Prize," "Point Pleasant," "Hang 'Em High" and "I'm a Geezer for Your Love." In addition to the usual reverb-drenched Strat, there's a lot of acoustic guitar, Hammond organ and percussion, making for a truly multi-dimensional sound.
Mister Neutron has performed with Slacktone, Insect Surfers, The Fathoms, Agent Orange and Pollo Del Mar, and they're heading for a rat-infested dive near you. Mister Neutron is a member of NESMA (North East Surf Music Alliance) and TIM (Texas Independent Musicians).
Mister Neutron: Women want them, men want to be them. Luckily, with recent advancements in identity theft, anything is possible!
Mister Neutron uses Fender guitars, basses and amps; Ampeg amps; Fulltone effects and cables; Tama drums; and D'Addario Chrome and GHS Burnished Steel strings.
